See You in the Summer

I have not been blogging for quite a while. I kept thinking I would, and then....... nothing. I mean,  I couldn't even get interested in photographing Christmas!I don't know how those of you who work are able to keep up a blog! School has been quite a challenge this year. I come home too tired, too overwhelmed, and  blogging has become another niggling little guilt because I am not doing it. It is supposed to be fun!

So, when the dust sheets on the porch come off, and it looks like this......

I will be back.  I may only blog in the summers, until I retire in a couple of years, I am going to leave that door open.

In the mean time, I will be keeping up with all of you, enjoying your creativity!

Easing Into Fall

As you can see by these two last posts, I am in no hurry for fall, or Halloween. I have a bad habit of not getting interested in a holiday until about a week before. Kinda too late when you are a blogger. I still curse the stores when I go into them in August and Christmas is up already. So maybe after this post I might skip Halloween and get a head start on fall and Thanksgiving........ or not. .....

My table features mercury glass from Nell Hill's for the centerpiece.

This tablescape matches the last post of the hutch, with colors of silver, white and green.

Scarecrows Unlimited

It's time for Postcards from Vee. I love Vee's once a month party in which you pick 4 photos previously used on your blog and turn them into postcards. Some entries are themed, some are just great photos, but it is always a fun party.

My entry this month is from about two years ago. The old downtown merchants put on a Scarecrow contest each October. Retailers are encouraged to put a scarecrow pertaining to their business along the old downtown main street. I took these early on a crisp Sunday morning.

Edward Scissorhands scarecrow is perfect for the hair salon!

City Hall's entry was a little poke at themselves, as those orange barrels are always a bane to our existence.

The second hand shop that carries high end  clothes, decor, etc. called Encore, put up this ladylike scarecrow for their entry.

I love this one. There is a wonderful doll shop in the old downtown, with a full line "doll hospital" for repair and restoration. You can see the doll "ambulance" in the background.

You can see the post in its entirety here, with more scarecrows.

I am joining Vee for her note card party.

State Fair Food

The end of summer always signals the state fair. Warm days and cool nights and lots to see. After a 3 1/2 hour drive to my daughter's house, we walked 3 blocks to the Kansas State Fair. And look at the first thing we saw:

                  Free Ice Cream!!!!

WHAT???
I know, surprised  me too!

Free dixie cup sized ice creams.

My daughter had been going to the fair all week, so she was telling me about all the strange and good food there. So for all you foodie people, I have chronicled the foods available.

No sweet tea here, this is Yankee country, you have to ASK for sugar.

I didn't see the red velvet funnel cakes, but they had carrot funnel cakes too.

My daughter tried the deep fried chocolate chip cookie dough. They were balls about plum sized, with a batter around it, and dusted with powdered sugar. Not appealing to me at all.

The standard fare.

These looked tempting, but I passed them up.

I really wanted to see what a Krispy Kreme Burger looked like, but I didn't want to ask anyone if I could take a picture of their food.

How do they do that???

What did I eat? None of that. We found a BBQ place to eat. Yum!
